Denatured, looks like no one knows the exact answer. It's only the 2nd year we've had the lottery, and last year it was unexpected so not many people had 2 applications in.
If both of your H1s are approved, then I'd imagine you'd receive two approval notices with different company names on it. I believe you'd then have to choose which one you want to use for your visa stamp, and let the other company know you have to turn down their offer. I imagine they won't be happy about it, but it's your right and if you want to be ethical you can offer to refund their H1B filing fees.
I'm not an expert but from what I know the H1B is always issued for a specific person and a specific company. You are able to change the company on that visa, but the company cannot take the visa that was issued to your name and give it to another employee.

I just spoke to Indian consulate, NYC. The procedure to correct the last name is very simple. All you need is an Affidavit from the person (Signed in US, saying that you are correcting your name.), 4 photos and a copy of 797 or Visa. No need of advertizements, or Indian affidavit.
Please note, this is applicable only if,
In your passport Surname is Blank
Given name has <first name><last Name> (and all spelling etc are correct)
and you want it to be corrected to
Surname <last Name>
Given Name <First Name>
They will issue a new booklet with corrected name. It's same day service in NYC.

08/22/2008: Wild Forest Fire Sweeping Chinese and Indian Websites
The USCIS has been delaying release of the August 15, 2008 USCIS processing time reports and so-called certain government agency processing tracking sites have been reporting slow-down of the EB-2 I-485 applications for the Indians and Chinese. Triggered in part by these evidence, the Indian and Chinese EB-2 I-485 waiters are literally consuming their emotions through the Indian and Chinese websites. However, we are still in August and have yet to reach the September 2008 Visa Bulletin which was released by the State Department assumedly after consulting with the USCIS, and there is absolutely no evidence at this point that the FY 2008 EB-2 visa numbers have already been exhausted. People should calm down, keep patience, and wait for the agencies' announcements, if any.

Just an idea, if someone can spend some time near the office videotaping flower arrivals, we can do a piece on youtube. It can potentially get more media attention if the media does not catch up immediately.

A Great Big Thank You to all of you who have been Contributing to enable IV to organize an event of this proportion.
Thank You IV for providing us with this platform to get our voices heard where it matters the most. Go IV!
The phenomenal experience of actually doing something positive to solve our problems is - but I am just acknowledging the great enthusiasm that was vibrating with our members - they realized the gravity of the situation, the opportunity that was within their grasp and wanted to make the best use of it. Hats off to you guys!!
IV realizes that our strength lies within our members and their dedication - both in terms of participation and funding. And if there is one thing that almost every single participant took home from the event is that - we still have a long way to go and we need far more support and participation. .
Thank You needhelp!, Devang, StarSun for summarizing the DC Experience. Each one of us that went to DC came back with a more positive outlook, the satisfaction of doing something good. I will write in detail my personal experience, but in a nutshell- The camaraderie, the enthusiasm and the tireless effort that some members put in is just commendable.

I love the mild tone of your message. Jobs are no water in sun that they will evaporate. But if they do, I am not stopping you to take those jobs back home�.
And I do notice large number of engineers, doctors, architects who are immigrants, and that�s what concerns me.
I would re-insist that Rallies are worthless and not worth your time. Your country is growing economically and you should spend you time looking for a job back home instead.
America is the country of immigrants . Except native americans.

I would suggest you ask your father to file a writ petition in High Court or Lower Court , my husband did the same for a minor change in his father's middle name.I presume you are indian and Indian authorities have not changed they require a beat down in court then only they work that's my firm belief. In our case it was a simple case my father in laws middle name was misspelt, we had all the evidence they required
school leaving,college leaving,birth certificate,PAN card.
Passport of my father in law where my husband travelled as minor.
Plus we got a letter from District Magistrate/Collector
But still Washington embassy would not budge or entertain our application saying this mistake was not by them and i approach passport authorities in india who had done this .
Finally my husband had enough and my father in law filed a petition in Lower court ,it took a couple of months to get the facts straight ,but it was quicker than we expected. Got a court order attched to application got the correction done.
the problem is we dont approach the law thinking it is headache but the fact is that the issues was not corrected at the right time so we will have get the facts verified by someone credible and who better than law to verify.
And the plus is that no one can refuse your appication and give u the run around ( that you are facing now get this doc get that doc)
as if the consulate does not follow the order it is contempt of court or they can file an appeal against the order . My suggestion would be to go thru courts because the procedures for changes are not crystal clear
but my case is different as i dont have any spe;lings or wrong name.
i need my name to be split in to first name and last name.

I am in for the flowers thing. However I have a suggestion, sending flowers just to Director U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will not help much, we need to draw the attention on congress on this to increase the green card quota and get rid of country quota. Any suggestion how we can draw attention of congress by sending flowers on JULY 10th?

This is the most sensible idea in a long time. And I agree with keeping it low profile. This would also give a reality for the Govt as to how many actual cases that are pending if in future they wanna do something with an actual law to really help out.
