The FEAR I see among many people is really pathatic, I know couple of friends does not even want to talk to me on phone about this matter thinking that some one might be listening,
Sometimes, the fears arise from watching too many movies. Like the movie "Enemy of the State" where some govt agencies hunt down Will Smith and unravel his life apart. Remember? Gene Hackman : "US Govt has computers underground that are several square miles and they track every wire, every airwave....".
What a bunch of ****.
Firstly, its a movie. Secondly even if its true, what's there to be afraid of??? If you talk on the phone about legal course of action to lobby, why would you be afraid of.
Like I said, you have to give some credit to the Irish. They have the chutzpah of going to lawmaker's offices in DC and say "I am an illegal...I broke the laws and overstayed my visa...please change to law to make everything ok again for me please...". And our community thinks that someone is listening to their phone conversation about how to raise money and lobby for the legal immigrants?????

I have only been able to talk to an IO once, and I feel they definitely have more info than these CSRs who are sitting there like bots. To get to the IO, I basically had to tell them that I have not opened a SR so far (which was not true).
When I tried calling yesterday, I told the CSR, that my attorney opened a SR on 1st September and if she could kindly transfer my call to a IO. She said she will not be able to transfer my call, as I had already opened a SR. When I told her that I already got a response for the SR, so I now need to open another SR, she said she cannot as it asked me to wait for 60 days. I requested her a couple times to please transfer me to a IO, she said, Sorry, cannot do it as you have already opened a SR.
I am planning to call them next week again, will tell them I have not opened a SR yet. Atleast, I will then get to talk to a IO.....!!

I dont see how genuine consulting firms will be affected by this. Those who employ people on H1B with genuine clients will be OK. Only consulting firms who bring/hire H1b employees without any project will be impacted. In my opinion this will help avoid the benching practice...

I'm thinking of buying Atlas America Comprehensive with $100 deductible for my Mom. It's coming out to be $991.00 for 6 months approximately.
Friends, if you have any complaints about Atlas or much favorable things to say about other insurance companies, Please suggest me.

They declined to cover hospital bills saying it is a pre-existing condition. Doctor's opinion was she acquired it due to cold weather and highly improbable for someone to have it not get sick for 3-4weeks. Insurance did not care. Still paying the bills.

Are you sure your namecheck is pending? How?
Do you have any written proof?
If there is no arrest record or any suspicious item in your application, your application may have been picked up randomly for interview. IV had worked on Namecheck issue in the past and namechecks should not be taking more than 6 months except very very few cases.

I had my H1 visa appointment on December 27th in Chennai. They said that my visa was approved and that I would recieve my passport within one week. I have not recieved it yet. I called up the Consulate a few times last week and initially they were saying that 'it would take another 2-3 days'. Finally when I called up on Friday the 4th, they said that another 7 days was needed for the PIMS verification.
Still no news......I was supposed to fly out on the 6th to report to work on the 8th but had to postpone my ticket.
Anyone else in the same position please share!

how about being a monthly charge of some amount to be members who can post/respond. Others can read but not post. This way you will know exactly how many paid members you have and amount you can expect monthly

(1) account maintenance fee: charge $1/month for maintaining the account, members who paid this fee will have read access to all threads except IV core updates. IV can generate $25K a month with this option, this can cover day to day expenses.
(2) usage fee: charge $??/month for using the IV forums, members who paid this free can post and respond and read IV updates.

It is possible INS can track you down using posts here as you seem to be illegally here in the US. I wouldnt be advising anything to you as you are an illegal alien.
At least one person is doing the right thing and you are asking him to be a coward ? What will INS do after tracking him down ?
INS can't even track down the 12 million "really illegal " aliens that you and I see everyday around us and they will waste their time going after this guy who has already left the country.
Get a grip on practical things in life.
The employer should most certainly be reported to DOL for fraud.

As per my research and talking to customer service of few american and india insurance companies, You are partly right that no one covers pre-existing conditions.
But indian companies like Icici lombard, Bajaj allianz, tata aig etc cover emergency life saving treatment even if it was due to the pre-existing conditions. Which means if one is diabetic, reguler sugar check and doc vists will not be covered but if say patients develops a critical condition (e.g kideny failure etc) then the treatment is covered.
But american companies do not cover even the emergency treatment.

I believe it will be the same old story. They will wait till last quarter and then will waste thousands of visa numbers because of their darn slow processing hands and we people will again start talking optimism from Oct 2010.
What happened to the IV's talk with USCICS on spillover policies? Does anybody know?
my thoughts exactly - they are just relaxing till summer season !! and maybe they will make the dates current in last quarter too - this means more mess but more $$$$ for them.

You make these H1-Bs who have spent 6 years here (working on various products, technologies, ramping up, understanding customers, relationships etc) go back, they are going to start companies in India. Now all the capital stays out there. The same 5 products that could have been built in the US and sold to lots of companies abroad, will now have to be bought by the US.

I voted for both questions.
BTW Sen. McCain is now front runner in GOP for presidential candidate. Even though he backed out of immigration reform, I consider him our friend and also a person of integrity. I am glad to see him emerge as front runner. On the other hand Tom Tancredo figured nowhere, even when immigration was still hot issue. That should be enough for our friends in NumbersUSA & ALIPAC to see where they stand in terms of public support for their issues.
