In his yearly report to Congress in June, immigration services ombudsman Prakash wrote that the policy on checking names "may increase the risk to national security by extending the time a potential criminal or terrorist remains in the country." questioned the overall value of the process, writing that it was the "single biggest obstacle to the timely and efficient delivery of immigration benefits."
The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged the threat, last month announcing plans to work with the FBI to address the backlog and reduce delays. Citizenship and Immigration Services will reassess the way name checks are done and earmark $6 million toward streamlining the process, Bentley said. [note: Chris Bentley is a USCIS spokesman.]

In addition to clearing the backlog and processing the 27,000 new name checks it receives each week from immigration officials, the FBI is trying to accelerate the process by making more documents electronic. It is also adding more staff and moving resources to a new records facility in Virginia, Carter said. [note: Bill Carter is a FBI spokesman.]
What we really need is something like what they had to do to clear the US passport backlog -- aggressive hiring and reallocation of resources to remove the backlog + reassessment of the value of examining reference files. Not a replay of the DOL BEC story OR the continuation of the current Kafka-esque situation albeit with few pieces of duct tape to show the press.
I hope IV is making this clear in all meetings. $6M worth of changes are not going to fix the problem.

With my very best wishes to those of you waiting for your GC, this thread is created for the lucky among us who received it recently. I am putting together a list of things to do, and not do, to maintain our freshly minted PR status, which should also help during future citizenship application. The list is mostly about little things that others have learned from experience (and I am learning from their experience, by reading in immigration-related forums such as IV). The donations that we make to IV will be part of the general corpus which will be used for lobbying. As one core member pointed out 99% of that fund is utilized for lobbying, I am guessing remaining 1% is spent on hosting IV website.

On a side note, It appears that false propaganda is being spread about our taxes and SS contributions we make to raise more anti feelings about us.
To the contrary we contribute to the SS coffers without making use of it. We need to counter this.

I wish more people participated in it. infact if more members can continue to do it today it will be very helpful. yesterday there were at least 3 mails from reporters expressing interest in us. This was because a few people wrote to them about IV and requested them to do a followup article abut us. I had found about 72 articles yesterday morning and we had more than 50 potential reporters to contact.It is not easy to get press coverage and this is one opportunity where we can captitalize on the venture captitalist story (no pun intentended).

This is also my first battle iv started on Kirupa Forums, I started it on the Lab.Rats Forums and it has been great so far. Also if your wondering why I chose to skin an iPod for the battle theres no reasons, its just what popped in my head and was easy to find a nice image for. Now onto the battle info:
iPod Skin Battle Rules/Objective:
- Objective: Skin an iPod with a design of your choice (Not MOD an iPod)
- Must use the iPod image supplied in this thread. Do not re-size image.
- One entry per person.
- Entries are to be posted in this thread by 20th June 2005
- I and some others will then review the entries.
- The best entries will be chosen for the polls after the deadline.

I talked to my lawyer about this. They have filed about 300 applications on July2'nd(reached USCIS on July 2). They haven't gotten a single application back. I think we can relax. July 2 applications are in the beginning of the queue and should get receptis after the june applications are done.

I hope you are not joking here, did you try to port your EB-3 date to some old PD or change from EB-3 to EB-2?
I am surprised how come PD is not current and USCIS denies I-131 based on the grounds that I-485 approved.
Something is definitely wrong here, unless its USCIS system glitch which considers the preadjudicated (pre-approved) cases as approved and then deby subsequent benefits associated with AoS (I-485) pending application.
Very interesting news for the IV community. Keep us posted on the new developments.

Finally I am a US citizen after being 10+ years in this country. This is one of my biggest fulfillments and it means everything to me. US is just not home anymore for me, it is my country.

do we have to withdraw the 401K when we leave or can we withdraw it at a later date..
