    Just curious why you cannot join a state chapter?

    I don't think we are not hearing news from IV. The Admin fixes campaign has been the most important effort these days. So now we all need to give IV an update if we sent our letters. I would not care about core members who were old and new. I really dont care about them because I think IV is all of us and not core folks. I just care about if IV is doing good work and helping everyone.

    Why would you be curious to know about someone else's personal problems/issues? Your post sounds more like my daughter hypothetically saying that she doesn't care about whether her grandparents/parents are alive or dead, as long as she is there and she has a family to feed and take care of her...

    I have read my post couple of times before posting to avoid any mis-communication...but it's never possible to prevent I believe:)

    I have a recurring contributions setup and also contributed what ever I could this holidays...probably will contribute more before the end of the season. My post is not about the Monthly contributions made by you, me or many others...who signed up.

    It's about the ones' who cannot for what ever the reason may be....you and me pointing to the salaries or house-hold incomes will not help them join the wagon.

    It's about increasing the donations irrespective of people joining the monthly-contributions scheme....Other viable options...may be having a IV donation boxes...in immigrant owned businesses....etc.

    In an ideal world as you mentioned atleast 20000 of 25000 will contribute monthly....It's defintely good to aim for that....but that's not realistic.

    Anyway, IIRC, in past there have been incidences where VB posted in mumbai Consulate's website actually did not turn out to be true. Couple of years back - after the retrogression - it predicted huge forward movement which 2 days later turned out to be false hope...
    so keep your fingers crossed...

    The intent of the H1B program is not to bring people in the country in "Anticipatory mode" as you put it. The intent of the H1B program had always been for US employers to hire foreign skilled workers "On-Demand" when no american is willing, qualified or able to do the said job. Prior to 1999, the visa cap was 65000/yr WITHOUT the extra master's degree cap we have now, and still visas were never totally used up for any year, certainly not on the first day. It is only after the advent of the IT consulting companies hoarding visas in "anticipation" of future jobs that the problems started. Without any restrictions on this kind of abuse, no amount of H1 visa increase would be sufficient. They are talking of raising visas to 130,000 right? Based on the FY 2008 applications, those visas would be used up in TWO DAYS!

    IMHO, the intent of the H1B program is equally important than just loopholes (or not) in the letter of the law.

    I agree. But intent of law usually gets distracted once reality set's in. Not sure how we comparing 1999 to 2007 is right. Because many things changed.

    India which was doing low profile maintenance and support work became a global leader in outsourcing.

    You can also count #of folks coming to US on F1. Significant % of them become H1Bs.

    Again, I am not here supporting more numbers or less number in H1B. Because this forum and our organization is nothing related to H1B. We are for Employment based Green Card reforms. I rest my case....Thanks for interesting (and correct) opinions.

    hey zelda, that aint crap just needs a little bit of work, as grinch above me said, try getting out your marquee tools and cutting out the shapes instead of using the eraser, that will give you the crisp lines you will want for the "pad" and the "screen" and try and get your image all the way to the edge of the ipod. then it will look super cool!!

    Hi All

    I have been following this thread for the last few days and wanted to share some info. Hoping it would be useful.

    I entered the country in Jan 08 using the AP while I was still working for my GC sponsoring employer. Then in June 08 I joined another employer by transferring my H1B to the new employer. I did have the option of using EAD but I wasn't sure if the renewal will come before the expiry of current EAD. So decided to transfer H1 and my new employer graciously agreed to it.

    We did a premium transfer so got the approval in 2 weeks. Money does wonders (Almost like the proverbial paper weight with files). I confirm that the I94# number on I797 approval notice is same as the I94# number I got when entering the country in Jan 08.

    So this should be a good news for folks who are trying to do the same. I am in a different boat right now. I have to travel to India this November. I plan to return using AP. But now my employer is different from my GC sponsoring employer. Another issue is that I am going only for two weeks while my wife will be in India till Mid Jan. So we will enter US separately using AP. Please share your thoughts if you have been in this situation.

    I am on H1 for 9th year. I recently used AC21 using H1 Transfer. New H1 Got approved in October. But today I just saw this mail.. this some old H1 for old employer....

    Anyone what next steps do they ask in the Notice that they have mailed?

    With due respects, dude, this is one thing an individual should fight for himself, how will some other employee benefit if you sue your employer and win?..



    I do not think small time bad desi employers are hiring illegals. They are doing everything right as per law, it is just that the law is in favor of the employers and the immigration delays further gives them leeway to try their dirty tricks.

    Having said that, I appreciate your post informing affected employees on how to file a case. It will be useful for people who have a case against their employers. Please keep us posted on the outcome, I am sure it will motivate a lot of us.

    Buddy when I was talking about illegals I was not talking about IT jobs or desi employers though I know desi's run lots of other businesses like grocery store, resturants, which required non-professional workers.

    If the employer see ICE/DOL taking action against another employer and making an example out of it s/he will think twice about doing the same thing. Look at what happened with Fragomen. Though it is too early to say if Fragomen was involved in wrong doing, I am sure other immigration firms are already reviewing their procedure/guidance to make themselves compliant with the law/procedure.

    I know a lot of people using pre approved labor certs waiting for GC. What happens to them? I think this rule will affect only those who are trying to do Labor substitution in future.
    * Since this is a final rule, upon approval by OMB, the elimination of substitution and 45-day validity of certified labor certification will be triggered. Take this message as a very special alert! This rule will not only eliminate substitutition on the OMB approval and release in the Federal Register but also kill the certified labor certification unless it is used within 45 days from the date of certification!     Will it be ok to take zerox copy of Green card both Front and Back of the card. I am not sure whether I can take copy of back side of the Greencard...

    Can somebody post their experience.

    You want to know the "experiences" of people on how to take a photocopy ? I believe you got your GC in EB-2 category, so you should be skilled enough to know this.
